Windscapes SAND by Geoff Dunlop
Windscapes is a visual encounter with that most familiar yet mysterious of natural forces. We cannot see the wind but we can see its effects wherever we look, when we choose to look. Most often we are in its company but we choose to ignore it - unless it is in an angry mood and demands our attention.
Windscapes was inspired by Battle for the Winds, a multidimensional extravaganza put together by thousands of people for the opening of the Sailing events of the London 2012 Olympics in Weymouth, Dorset. And it was specifically inspired by Conversations with the Wind, a sequence of poems written for the occasion by Alice Oswald.
This a single-screen version -presented in a sequence of “episodes”- of a project initially conceived as an immersive, 360-degree experience.

City #7: Esofou
14 x 11”, Pen and Gouache on Paper
The city of Esofou mimics the temperament of the day’s weather. When it rains, the houses cry with paint dripping down their sides. When it snows, the legs of the houses become frigid and no longer sway with the wind. At night, the houses slowly creep towards the center of the city. During Autumn, houses turn beautiful shades of red, orange, and yellow, while during the Summer, the roofs imitate flames of fire blowing in the wind.
